The Data Team
Kara Johnson"Worrying doesn't empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength." |
What I do: I collaborate with the cross-regional Data Management team to establish a culture of data quality; develop strong data collection systems; expand data capacity (ability to access and use data), and build staff capacity related to data management initiatives.
How my work supports field staff: Facilitates the data collection and reporting process; provides support in collecting quality data; and encourages data access and use to inform decision-making at the site and regional levels. How Field Staff can support my work: Recognize that you play a key role in data quality, and in our ability to assess how we're doing and use this information to improve our services to kids! Experience and Education: Master's degree in Organizational Leadership (Business), Bachelor degree in Spanish; 15 years experience (at THINK Together!) supporting students and staff in implementation of quality academic programs. Hobbies and Interests: I love riding my Vespa (scooter), but also enjoy riding motorcycles; I am an avid traveler who appreciates the adventures encountered when experiencing a culture different than my own. Favorite Food: Ice cream, of course. My first place of residence was a small apartment above my parent's Dairy Queen, so (soft serve) ice cream is in my blood, although any kind of ice cream will do...at any time of year. :-) |
Bryce AshlandI know it’s cliché, but “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” |
What I do: I work on our program data cross-regionally. Among other things, I oversee data sharing relationships with our district partners and work closely with new or changing programs to ensure there is a robust process in place to capture and report quality data.
How my work supports Field Staff: My work to get districts to share their data with us means less data-entry in the field. Some of my process and system solutions have improved the usability and efficiency of Youthservices for field staff. How Field Staff can support my work: Because I deal with duplicate records in Youthservices, and matching our records to district records, the biggest thing Field Staff can do to support my work is to ensure with 100% confidence that the record they are dealing with in Youthservices corresponds to the physical student in question, and double check all records have the basic identifying information and that it is accurate. Experience and Education that support my work: I have a B.S. in Management Science (Economics) with a minor in Photography from UC San Diego and my experience since then has been in multiple industries, but has focused on improving processes and systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency, and using data to inform decisions. Hobbies and Interests: I have an amazing family that keeps me busy outside of work – three boys, ages 4 ½ , 2 ½ , and ½ . On a regular basis, as a family, we go out to the Great Park and “glean” vegetables for local food pantries food banks. When the kids are in bed we watch movies. When I’m in the car or by myself I listen to music. I also enjoy finding unique ways to photograph my family on our adventures. Favorite Food: I would probably take a really good piece of pizza over just about anything else, but I also love Thai, Mexican, Indian, Mediterranean, and most other foods too.
