Good to Great ScholarshipBy Bethany Fernandez, High School Career and College Resource Specialist
This is the time of year when we celebrate our students’ accomplishments. For THINK Together Teen Centers and High School programs that includes awarding scholarships to well deserving graduating seniors. The Good to Great THINK Together scholarship was established in 2007 with the idea in mind that good THINK Together students are going to become great contributing members of the community. Since 2007, THINK Together has awarded over 50 Good to Great Scholarships to our graduates. Awarding scholarships is no easy task and takes much collaboration between program and fund development. With such a large number of scholarships |
being awarded this year and more scholarships on the horizon (due to the hard work of the fund development department), much work has gone into creating policies and procedures this school year, ensuring that scholarships are awarded fairly and according to the law.
For the class of 2013, THINK Together awarded a total of 16 scholarships, with at least one scholarship being awarded to a participant from each high school program and teen center. This year’s recipients have aspirations of becoming police officers, actors, medical professionals, bio-chemists, and more. Congratulations to all the Teen Center and High School Program leadership and staff for supporting your students through the rigorous application process.

New and Improved Attendance Sheets!
by the Data Management Team
You spoke, and we listened. We’ve made some major changes to the YouthServices.net Single-Day Attendance in order to better meet your needs. All of these changes will also be implemented on the Supplemental 6-hr Program Single Day Attendance Sheet to be used for summer program. The current (2012-13) version of both attendance sheets will remain available until June 30, 2013.
Next month….find out how our Early Release/Late Arrival form and brand new Early Release/Late Arrival tab in YouthServices.net will make it easy to track recurring early releases and late arrivals.

There's a (NEW) Doctor in the House!Announcing... Dr. Tracy Bennett!
Tracy recently completed her Ph.D. from the University of California at Irvine, by passing her final defense of the following research:“Examining Varied Levels of Alignment Between School and Afterschool and Associations with Student Achievement” The four-year THINK Together/UCI Fellowship demonstrates the depth of THINK’s unique and continued commitment to being a learning organization. By promoting rigorous research on the impact that alignment practices have on afterschool participants’ academic achievement and by actively applying lessons learned from this research to the continued development of high-quality, evidenced-based programs that best ensure we are helping students be successful in school, THINK Together is setting itself apart as a leader in the field. Way to go, Tracy!! |
IT News
TEAM CHANGES- There are some changes in the IT team, as Michael Reynaga left has left the company. The interim replacement for the Systems Engineer position is Alan DeLeon.
SAFER SERVERS- Some of our critical servers have been moved to a hosting facility offsite that offers multiple protections for anything (theft, fire, flood) that could damage a server. What that means for you is a greatly decreased chance of the server being down when you need it!
HELPDESK- If you need IT support, use the Helpdesk ticket system https://helpdesk.thinktogether.org/portal . Your username is your email address and your password is the same as your email password. (These are also the same usernames and password as you will use for THINKmart https://thinkmart.thinktogether.org/ )
SPEAKING OF SAFETY- We have had an unusual amount of trouble with virus induced attacks on the email server and common drives.
Here’s what you can do:
- Be suspicious of emails that have multiple recipients that wouldn’t be normal.
- Be suspicious of emails from unknown recipients, especially when there is bad spelling or grammar.
- NEVER open an email attachment with an .exe file extension. These files are specifically for installing programs on your computer, and you will - NEVER need to download and install a program from an attachment.
- The two most dangerous actions you can take with an email are to click on a link that takes you to a harmful website, or to open an attachment that contains malware. Look for signs that everything is legitimate before you do either of those!
